Greenwood Rhythm Coalition EP

A 7 track beats & breaks single (21m 25s) — released January 5th 2007 on Names You Can Trust
Straight out of the rugged Greenwood neighborhood of Brooklyn comes a diverse instrumental EP that aims to occupy a long-term space in the crates of funky DJs across the globe. The creation of NYC veteran Monk-One (Wax Poetics, Turntable Lab) and up-and-comer E's E (wiz behind what Fat City named "the best mix ever"), GRC ignores trends and fads, focusing directly on solid songs with undeniable grooves. Sample-based, but far from simple loops, the four tracks (and three interludes) on this hefty EP are a mixture of intricate rare-groove chops and layered live instruments, including vintage keyboards, string bass, percussion and rude brass. From the spacey afrofunk of "Pepita Stew" to the mean Latin tones on "Greenwood Groove" to the disco dub "Over Easy's" and dark Reggae breaks banger "Aristocratic Bad Boy," there's something here for every advanced dancefloor selector.
